U.S. WW2 87th Infantry Division (Golden Acorn) shoulder sleever insignia.
The 87th Infantry Division served in the European Theater during WW2. The division arrived in Scotland in Oct 1944 and trained in England. The division landed in France in December of 1944 moved to Metz where it went into action and took Fort Driant. The 87th was moving into Germany when on December 16th, 1944 the Germans launched an offensive in the Ardennes forest (the Battle of the Bulge). The division joined the battle in Belgium at the end of December. Camapaigns included Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe. The division participated in 154 days of combat and was awarded 2 Distinguished Unit Citations. After Victory in Europe Day, the 87th returned to the States in July of 1945.
